Rikugien Garden, Bunkyo

4.3
#7 of 393 in Parks in Tokyo
Stroll through Rikugien Garden, a peaceful oasis inspired by poetry in the heart of Tokyo. Signage in English explains the connection between the gardens and excerpts of poetry, as you enjoy the scenery of cherry blossoms and the park's small pond. The park really shines during the autumn months, as lights illuminate the red and orange hues of the foliage after dark. You can find amenities throughout the garden, including snack stalls and restrooms. To visit Rikugien Garden on your trip to Tokyo, use our Tokyo trip tool .

  • When I look at what fish are out on the pond and walking around the garden is beautiful I wish I would what Bluegill's most! The release of who I am, something like? And medaka no more I would wish. Really disappointed. Ask TV to pond water I want to disconnect?

  • Visited April 20, 2018. Arranged around a small body of water, a very beautiful garden which floor is on a hillock. Meticulous, cleanliness is impeccable. We were lucky to have the stands of azaleas in bloom in April. A wide range of colors. For a moment of relax and color for the eyes.

  • 6 garden is the cherry blossom. Located near komagome station. Weeping cherry tree was fine in the cold.

  • Let me propose the best way here. In Spring for cherry blossom season, the best way is go and buy tickets in the morning, and wait till it's getting dark, by having lunch and dinner around. Then get into the garden. Otherwise you'll spend half an hour for just buying a ticket. Inside the garden, not that much cherry blossom than I expected. But it's well treated and organized.
  • While most people visited here during the Sakura season, it’s just as beautiful during the summer with globes of clustered hydrangeas. With less visitors, it’s easier to appreciate the well-designed traditional garden. Bring a book that you have been meaning to read and you can spend the whole afternoon here.
  • It costs 300 yen to enter this garden but it is well worth it. We arrived in the evening about an hour before sunset. Got to see it in day light and then stayed till after sunset and got to see it lit up with lights. Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. Hours say it closes at 5pm but was there well past that and it seemed to get a little busier at night.
  • Great garden, but really small! Often overcrowded and gets difficult to even move! At times, it feels like to be in yet another busy Tokyo train station! Beautiful, but probably overrated!!
  • Small park with great views and heritage. Small entrance fee but well worth the money. English descriptions are scattered around the park to help you make sense of it’s heritage. Come during different seasons to see different flowers.
