Arashiyama, Kyoto

4.3
#1 of 2,312 in Outdoors in Japan
For centuries a source of respite and escape, Arashiyama offers a glimpse of natural beauty outside of Kyoto. The district has a variety of outdoor activities: visit the Japanese macaques in the monkey park, or take a rowboat out onto the lake. Don't miss the bamboo grove, a gentle uphill trail through densely packed stalks, ending at a historic imperial villa and its surrounding landscaped gardens. Our Kyoto tour planner makes visiting Arashiyama and other Kyoto attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Start exploring the bamboo forest Arashiyama! Rent a bicycle at the station as far as bamboo! It was so good! Many people recommend for bike down, oshimashou!

It feels fantastic and unusual vacation memories. From togetsu-Kyo, often look for gate fire. I felt more solemn, and thought he was seemed as just a Festival tourist tourists inn keeper, but still speaking of summer events in Kyoto and this is it.

The best tip I can give ... GO EARLY ! Bus loads will appear at the usual tourist times, between 1030am - 330pm. The path when you get to the bamboo in the mornings is really peaceful, and its a short...  more »

This is by far my favourite place in Japan. The serenity and scenery is an absolutely beautiful experience. I loved the weather (went twice in Spring and Winter) and all the shops along the streets. Every restaurant/dessert shop was so very tempting and mouthwatering.

This is a very beautiful area that reflects old Japan. It can be very busy because it is home to the Bamboo gardens and a monkey park. We enjoyed the Monkey park (where wild monkeys come to socialize and take snacks). The bamboo forest was beautiful but very crowded. Much of the area is geared towards tourists and there are many restaurants and souvenir shops.

The Best thing that you shoud do in there, is bicycling. I extremely suggest you that when you arrive in Here, rent a bicycle first. you can see a lot view and go everywhere. It'so amazing time for me.

The most famous bamboo forest in Japan. Need to bring comfortable hiking shoes, umbrella or light rain jacket.

Arashiyama is a wonderful place in Koyoto. We rented bicycles near Saga- Arashiyama station. We had a great day. It's recommended for people who like nature.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
