Osaka Castle, Osaka

3.9
#2 of 109 in Historic Sites in Osaka
Built and rebuilt numerous times since 1653, Osaka Castle looms over its surrounding gardens, moats, imposing stone walls, gates, and turrets. Take the elevator up to the observation deck on the castle’s eighth floor, or wander the garden between the complex’s many structures, stopping in the tea house for a snack. The castle, originally intended to help with the unification of Japan, was captured and changed hands over a dozen times. Visit the museum within to learn more about the castle’s history. You take you the picture from afar and you will! We took a guided tour. And when we were arriving told us that wasn't worth entering. It is just to take the picture from the outside and go. A must-see attraction only by the background view. In ascent. And if it gets very hot there I do not know because but was worse!

If you go to Osaka, you can not miss the visit to the Castle, where you can see the greatness of Osaka in the Empire of Japan, which was at times was more important than the own Tokyo. Has access to discpacitados, and is surrounded by gardens and a Cultural Forum that you will see the exhibition of the moment. There are no large rows, painted is good to arrive early so you can enjoy much better the galleries--

No interest... You can see the most beautiful on the outside. A lot of people. In castles, visit rather than Kanasawa.

This is a rebuilt Castle and converted into a museum. Free entry with Amazing Pass. Most people had to climb 8-storey as the lifts are small and serves mainly the elderly and those using wheel-chairs. The size gets smaller as you go up. Inside you get information on the history of Japan. The artifacts are well kept. Photography is allowed. In some areas you have good aerial view of Osaka. The compound is very large and the moat in most part has water in it. A boat service is available.

The castle looks beautiful outside, however inside, despite exhibitions behind the glass, there's nothing traditional or interesting. Pretty crowded, hard to take photos. The view from the top of tower is amazing although sightseeing terrace is protected with metal net, so the view is being disturbed by the net. Price is all right, 600¥. (July 2017)

This castle was Epic! The structure is still in quite good condition - largest of all the castles we visited in Japan - a few activities you can do outside with kids, saw many people bring their Shiba's! And heaps of food, definitely have the beef skewers and some soft cream. It was heaven

A must see if your visiting Osaka! Amazing just to walk through the park seeing the beautiful trees, the castle mote, and the castle itself. To enter the castle was ¥600 each, with a good view from the top and historical exhibitions inside.

I spent a week in Japan, and I chose to spend two full days at the Osaka Castle. A beautiful structure, amazing grounds with so much to see and explore, plenty of space to be in the crowds doing tourist things, or picnic in the grass off in a quiet corner. Love that the castle is treated as a city park, in a lot of ways. Getting to see the locals was more immersive than just hanging with fellow tourists. The gift shop is a robust store, bought a lot of souvenirs and things for me too. Varying foods at the food trucks, but my favorite was the fried chicken, so good. Night or day this is a wonderful place to visit, to be at peace with nature and history. Take your time to explore, there is so much more than just a castle to see.

Where to stay in Osaka

The majority of Osaka's moderate and expensive accommodations concentrate in the districts of Umeda, Kyobashi, Namba, and Shin-Osaka. Base your stay in or near Minami neighborhood for proximity to a wide selection of shopping and dining options. For quick access to long-distance transportation to other cities and areas, look for hotels in Kita district. Many backpackers prefer the budget options in the Tennoji area, where the quality of rooms and prices vary wildly--call or check websites of specific establishments before you make reservations.
