#1 of 234 in Theme Parks in Japan
Families flock to Universal Studios Japan for the shows, rides, and attractions that fill the park, an installment of the international Universal Studios brand. The park includes a number of the classic rides and sections, such as Marvel comic book roller coasters, a Jurassic Park ride, and a Wizarding World of Harry Potter featuring restaurants, shops, and rides. Research tickets and opening times in advance, as lines can get very long. Note that most of the signs and performances are only in Japanese. To avoid if you're not patient! Yet, we had planned to go there a week and from the opening day. Very negative experience when we went to the most quickly in the "Harry Potter" section we were in a long line that lasted... 3 HOURS! The poor little children who had to wait in the heat! All 5 minutes of attraction. Disgusted we wanted to other attractions and the shorter to wait 30 minutes. (More than 2 hours) Fortunately some lines offer the "single rider", which enabled us to gain a little time. To know that no attraction offers a captioning in English! At noon we couldn't almost move so there was world. Could not find a solution to limit the number of entries? (pre-sale tickets on the internet and in agencies as for a concert?) In conclusion we had frankly printing be taken for pigeons by an institution that thinks only of yield profit. I do not recommend anyone.

Having two children, a visit to theme parks was always one of our main itinerary when having holidays. But here, I can feel the energy and the passion of the USJ. I would rate it at par with Tokyo Dis...  more »

It is an altogether different experience and is good in its own way. I would recommend it if you are in Osaka. You need one whole day for it  more »

I liked how there was a special event for Dragonball Z and One Piece. I didn't like that they only play those shows on different times. I liked the Hogwarts experience. I didn't like how there were weight restrictions, but it is understandable due to safety reasons. I do recommend getting the Express Pass so you can cut lines in certain attractions. Get there early and stay all day!

We went on a non-busy day and non-busy timing so we got to play the rides really quickly. We covered all the major attractions but it was not as fun / exciting as Disneyland or Universal studios Singapore. However the crew and staff were really polite and friendly. I think the background music doesn't match the theme park - there are very few mascots walking around and the food is HORRIBLE at a high price. You can actually bring food into the park as they don't check your bags / no security. The Harry Potter segment was really wonderful though.

I am not a fan of thrill rides but we did go on the Jurassic park ride and some of the new 4D experiences. So real!!! The new minion park opened and the Japanese are all dressed up for the occasion. The two day pass will probably be a better choice if you plan to go in all the rides but the express pass definitely made a difference for those who didn't have to wait in the long lines. There is also a quick 3ntry to the Harry Potter castle walk that usually doesn't have line. It was nice to see a nice restaurant inside the park which was pricey but more comforting compared to eating fast food and candies. We had some really good thin crust pizza at the pizzeria.

Horrible experience. Waiting in line for more than 3 hours for the Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey ride? The sign outside the ride said the wait was 120 minutes. Within the first hour of waiting everything was going smooth until they announced that there was some sort of malfunction or incident which caused the line to come to a halt and sit down in line for about 50 minutes. *Oh yeah, if you're going to announce something, please provide a translation. After that, the line started moving again. Then it came to another halt. No announcements or employees saying anything. Stood there for ANOTHER extra hour. The wait was so bad that people from the line were walking all the way to the front to see what the heck was going on. It turns out the employees were letting in all of the people with express tickets in. NO ONE from our line was allowed to go. They just told the people in the front to wait. Now keep in mind people with express tickets were literally just coming from outside and walking through the locker rooms to put their belongings for the ride. Their wait seemed about a good 5-10 minutes with how fast their line was moving because the employees were letting them all in. I understand that it's an express ticket line and people with express tickets get there faster, but that DOES NOT mean you exclude, ignore, and not allow anyone from our line to move on. We've been all waiting for 3 1/2 hours and some of us even longer. At one point I had enough of this and walked all the way to the front and confronted a worker. I asked him why the hell were none of us moving and they were? His answer was "because they have express tickets". I said I don't care what they have, why are none of us not freaking moving? His answer was, "please wait". I was so pissed off. After I said something I noticed a family and other Japanese girls saying something too. Never again. This is horrible customer service.

What's good For a first timer of Universal Studios, the concepts simply blows your mind. Roller Coasters are crazy, Harry Potter show is a thing of fantasy and the buzzing crowd simply takes the whole day to a next level. What's not good However there are queues and queues - upto three hours that make things dull for a while. That's the only thing that I can not down as a downer. What to do Plan. Plan well in advance and read few blogs. Express a tickets is a magic wand but comes at a cost. Forle Harry Potter show is best to be covered at 5 PM when the wait time reduces to less than 60 minutes. Roller Coasters will any time take about an hour thanks to the throughout. Minions Mayhem is a challenge we also could not solve as kids simply throng this place keeping wait time above 2 hours even at 6 when it winds up.

Where to stay in Osaka

The majority of Osaka's moderate and expensive accommodations concentrate in the districts of Umeda, Kyobashi, Namba, and Shin-Osaka. Base your stay in or near Minami neighborhood for proximity to a wide selection of shopping and dining options. For quick access to long-distance transportation to other cities and areas, look for hotels in Kita district. Many backpackers prefer the budget options in the Tennoji area, where the quality of rooms and prices vary wildly--call or check websites of specific establishments before you make reservations.
