Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Shinjuku

4.6
#1 of 5,514 in Parks in Japan
Originally constructed for the private residence of "daimyo" (feudal lord) Naito in the Edo period, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden has served as a public park under the Ministry of the Environment since its reconstruction after World War II. Tour the park to see its three main sections: a traditional Japanese garden dotted with ponds intercepted by islands and bridges; a symmetrically planned French garden; and an English garden with sweeping lawns and cherry blossom trees. Stop by the greenhouse to inspect the permanent and special exhibits of tropical flowers. • At first I was a bit disappointed in the admission, but if you look at the beautiful Tokyo Yen saunter away maple leaf looks in the middle of the Middle Lake with beautiful. I kept thinking I'd have a go at me when a good picnic.

  • There is a small fee to get in but its worth it. You can have a picnic here and walk around for pictures. If you go during fall season, its very beautiful with the fall foliage colors in trees. You would need a couple of hours to walk around here. Compare to central park, its not that big and you wont get lost, if you do its not impossible to get yourself out. Every path ways lead you to another sight
  • One of the most beautiful parks in central Tokyo. A wonderful place where families can relax due to the wide open spaces. The park is immaculately maintained. This is a popular spot during cherry blossom or when the leaves change color during autumn. This place is a lovely little refuge for those seeking a little nature in a bustling metropolitan city.
  • brought mum here to experience the bloom. its a great park to relax and have a picnic, and since (apparently) they grow different species around the park - you get to at least see some blooms all year round. and being such a public place, i was also pleasantly surprised at how clean they kept the public toilets.
  • A wonderful, beautiful and clean park. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. I didn't expect to witness such beautify in the center of Tokyo, Japan. You can wander around for hours without getting bored. The park provides enough amenities to keep you going.
  • An extremely beautiful place! We went there in December, it looked gorgeous - green, gold and red, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. If the weather is sunny, you can take food and a blanket and have a picnic. Also the Japanese-style garden is fantastic. There are some some nice food options around, so you can pop into one of the cafés right outside.

Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
