Enter through the imposing Thunder Gate and walk the shopping street, lined with about 90 food and souvenir shops and dating back to the early 18th century, up to the main hall. The temple complex, including the main hall, contains buildings both historic and reconstructed since World War II. • Expect crowds. But I liked that it wasn't as overwhelming to walk around. You get to see local Japanese culture as well as flocks of tourists. Enjoy the shops and food as you walk towards the temple. ...  more »
  • This is a weekday, there are a lot of people, but it is much better than the holiday, very recommended November interview, because the weather is very comfortable, in addition to the temple to the hot Light street, can also walk around the place, it is completely away from the crowd, very comfortable, there are many delicious snacks and restaurants and some small shops , it's worth visiting, and the shops are very polite.

  • There are plenty of people in the daytime and at night, and the advice is a little bit early. There are a lot of special items on the left and right side of the store street that you can buy as gifts for your friends. The front of the gate is narrower, so it's difficult to take a picture of the card. XD

  • The shrine and surrounding grounds were very beautiful. It was fun too get your fortune. There were many shops in the street leading to the shrine that were fun to walk through
  • A good example of a traditional shrine in the Edo era part of Tokyo. Everything around here is styled around how things would have been way back when. The vendors offering hot, sweet rice wine are not to be passed by. Do give it a try, especially when it's cold! It's very sweet and warming. Different to sake of anything I've tasted before. The little moon cakes are red bean filled and are delicious. Made in an old style machine, which of course is part of the charm!
  • As a tourist this place is pretty amazing. Being here physically is quite an experience. The history this site has is unimaginable. The structure is well maintained for obvious reason. It was very crowded even for the time of the year we visited. This is a must see site.
  • If you've visited Nakamise-dori and Sensoji temple, why not visit the Asakusa temple itself too? If you're lucky, you can find a traditional Shinto wedding procession taking place here when you come. Remember to be polite and courteous around religious sites.
  • A smaller shrine next to Senso-ji that is away from the crowd and much more humble looking. Good place to just take a rest and enjoy the calmness of the area before going back to the busier Senso-ji.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
