  • The walk through Park to the Museum was a delight but this Museum has several surprises. The Main section covers the decorative arts of Japan and walk through the two floors with continual surprise. S...  more »
  • The Museum is really interesting, with artifacts and unique items, not for anything else is one of the most interesting and important of Japan. Recommended.

Cute dog painted on the fusuma of the Edo period and I say! Now dogs are pet animals. Enhancement of course speaking of the TNM and at the Museum of the country's highest public exhibition of sore it is. Cotowa of birds and beasts caricature was exhibited this time.

  • A large, beautiful museum that you could easily spend the full day at, and only 620 yen to get in. We also rented the audio guide (English) for 500 yen which was decent. Although I suspect it's better in other languages as in English the guides were per room, as opposed to a specific item. Definitely stop by the gift shop too, as they have really nice postcards and shirts which are all very reasonably priced!
  • An amazing museum with many Japanese treasures. Many signs are in English, and the museum map is available in a variety of languages. The entrance fee is very reasonable, especially if you are a student and show your school id. We only spent a few hours here, but you could easily spend a whole day! The museum gift shop is worth a visit, even though it's a little overpriced.
  • Worth seeing if you have time Chinese, and Indian art, including more than 100 national treasures. The Tokyo National Museum is a nice museum. It is worth the visit if you have time and are interested in Japanese art. We went to see the Samaurai collection, which was good but rather small. We only toured the main building so I can't say much for the entire museum, but the building we saw lacked any signs providing information on history or culture. With only a few days in Tokyo we felt that going here wasn't really worth our time.
  • A must. It's great to get at least some broad strokes of Japan's historical development. Incredible pieces illustrate early chinese and Korean cultural influences. I suggest you try it at the beginning of your visit to Japan (unlike me) and your experience of the country will far richer .
  • Great, family-friendly place. We just visited today amd not only do you get a discount on adult tickets when you bring a baby/child, they also have a very private room if you need to nurse your baby during your visit. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
