  • There's lots of fun to be had at the Remarkables. We were a group of 2 intermediate, 1 advanced and managed to find enough great runs to keep us busy for a couple of days. If there was no snow, it would get boring pretty quickly. That said, you can always fall back to the park, which is varied enough to keep just about all levels busy. There are a few cutouts, rollers and small drops around the place to have some fun with or without snow. We managed to get powder day and with a bit of exploring got fresh lines all day. That's pretty rare for a hill of this size as it usually gets tracked out quickly. Maybe it was just a quiet day, but with a bit of traversing or minimal hiking, a lot of fresh tracks were made. If you're a beginner, there's plenty here for you too. Oh, and get the loaded kumara wedges.
  • Loved this place. So many good runs, nice open intermediate runs. There was no snow on the day we went (previous night) but they made snow and according to another, the volume of snow was the same as when they previously had a nights snow. In other words don't fret If it did not snow last night. The runs are bound to be great and powdery.
  • Great snowfield for the intermediate skier. Would think twice before going for full day group lessons. Fantastic instructors but a poor process for sorting levels at the beginning and zero re-sorting to push you up a level. If you start at intermediate (3b) you won't progress. Better to do half day lessons and practice what you learnt in the afternoon... or a single group lesson to get your ski-legs back and then a private lesson.
  • A great ski area. Lots of fun. In a basin or valley so you can see everything that is going on. Outstanding views. Great terrain park.
  • Great ski field, went during the week at the end of July and not too busy at all. Barely had to line up for one lift :) snow quality good enough and facilities were nice and clean.

Where to stay in Queenstown

To enjoy views of Lake Wakatipu in a luxury setting, try one of the many boutique and long-established hotels of the downtown area. As a resort town, Queenstown also offers a range of more modest accommodations, ideal for adventurers, backpackers, and those eager to spend more time outside than in. These come in the form of hostels, rental apartments, campsites, and suburban motels. A good local bus service provides connections between the downtown and suburban areas, and out to the surrounding attractions, and many accommodations offer package tours.
