The Eiger Trail, Grindelwald

4.9
#1 of 93 in Trails in Switzerland
Hike through some of the country's most iconic scenery along The Eiger Trail, a short medium-level trail amidst the famous triumvirate of Swiss summits. Enjoy alpine pastureland, waterfalls, scree slopes, grassy boulder fields, and lake scenery, and see the north edge of the Eiger glacier and sheer limestone buttress protruding out of the Mönch. Take your time and soak up the views with other friendly hikers on this good mixture of steeps and flats. Hop on a scenic monorail to reach one of the lower stations. • It is rare as on this beautiful hike so close to mountain peaks and glaciers. The Eiger enchants not only climbers, but he is a breathtaking mountain for hikers. The best time for this hike is mid-July to the end of September. The Eiger trail is open in July; depending on the snow conditions already in June, until the snow melts here very late because of the location of the shadow. Because at this altitude it can snow even in summer, be sure snow routes and good weather are to be seen. I recommend the hike from Grindelwald to start basic (943 m) via Brandegg (1332 m) and then to Alpiglen (1615 m). This variant of the Eigertrail begins in Alpiglen and then runs over the cattle Alp (1821 m), In the smooth Wang (2064 m) up to the station Eigergletscher (2320 m) of the Jungfrau railway on a red and white marked mountain trail. The trail continues moderately steep, sometimes narrow, but not exposed. You must be so not afraid of heights because the trail is not exposed. Sturdy shoes with non-slip soles are recommended because the path is Rocky and rocky. Are depending on the tempo and any breaks to rate 3-4 hours walking time in good physical condition. The hikers will be rewarded not only with a gigantic high-alpine experience with stunning views into the glacial world, but will here aware of the performance of the pioneers of alpinism under the Eiger North face, from today's perspective haarsträubender Equipment have gone into this frightening wall. Eiger climbers in the wall can be observed with a box cutter and a little luck. Completion is the descent of the station Eigergletscher to Kleine Scheidegg (2061 m) and the descent with the Jungfrau railway back to the starting point of Grindelwald. From the car, you can enjoy the Eiger North face in passing again. This tour is a must for mountain enthusiasts of this region.

  • On the Eiger Trail, you can do this via Ferrata original which takes you to over 2600. at the top of the Rotstock. Descent on the other side in the scree to reach the station. Bit difficult but beautiful sensations.

  • The weather was anything but cooperative but the trip was special. There were lots of alpine flowers. The tremendous outflow from the glaciers was sad, see it while they are still there.  more »
