A symbol of the Incan civilization, the abandoned city of Machu Picchu represents a must-see on a Peru vacation.
Machu Picchu and Winawayna will appeal to history buffs. Step out of the city life by going to Phutuq K'usi and Los Jardines de Mandor. There's lots more to do: delve into the distant past at Intipuncu, look for all kinds of wild species at Jardin Botanico en Machu Pichu, and stop by Artesanias.

Considered the country's capital of culture, Trujillo was the birthplace of the North Group, a community of artists and intellectuals that included celebrated poet Cesar Vallejo and notable novelist Ciro Alegria.
Start off your visit on the 12th (Sun): stroll through Huanchaco Beach. On your second day here, contemplate the long history of Huaca del Sol y la Luna, explore the ancient world of La Huaca del Sol, contemplate the long history of Chan Chan, then steep yourself in history at Casa Orbegoso, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Catedral de Trujillo - Catedral de Santa Maria.

Getting from Arequipa to Trujillo by flight takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Arequipa in November, plan for a bit warmer nights in Trujillo, with lows around 62°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Tue) so you can travel to Lima.

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Get some historical perspective at Huaca Pucllana and Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco. Visit El Silencio and Playa Kon-Tiki for some beach relaxation. There's lots more to do: make a trip to Miraflores, appreciate the extensive heritage of San Isidro, ponder the world of politics at Palacio de Torre Tagle, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Parque de la Reserva.
