Houses of Parliament, London

4.6
See British democracy in action at Houses of Parliament. During the week, all British residents and overseas visitors can watch legislators debating for free. If your visit falls on a Saturday, or during the summer recess, you'll be able to take a guided tour of the building. The tours are comprehensive, starting in the Queen’s Robing Room, moving through chambers for debating and voting, and finishing in medieval Westminster Hall. Along the way, you'll encounter grandly appointed spaces and collect knowledge about British parliamentary procedure. UK residents can also tour Elizabeth Tower, but foreign visitors cannot. A visit to Houses of Parliament represents just the start of the adventure when you use our London trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • We did the guided tour. It was very informative and very interesting. Really loved being able to go into the houses of lords & Commons rooms as well as many other places. May be dull for kids.  more »
  • We booked our FREE tour with our local MP, which as a UK citizen you are entitled to do. It was excellent. We were shown round by two of our MP's research assistants who were very knowledgable. Really...  more »
  • The tour is well planned and informative. A nice way to pass an afternoon indoors. The fact that it is actually used for parliamentary sessions makes it a lot more interesting :)  more »

  • A historic building full of culture. Tourists flock from all over the world to see this place. You can go online to book tickets and explore inside it. Hard to believe that it had been here for week over 100 years. It is also next to Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster which are also particularly popular. The ministers and civil service workers that control the country work in and around this complex.
  • Fantastic tour. The adult tour was a bit hard for the kids, but we learned a lot and we're able to fill in the gaps for the kids later. If you can book a tour early as this is not a good last minute visit. The history of the world is very wrapped up in this building.
  • Wonderful building. Rebuilt after a great fire catastrophe. Good work.
  • Truly awesome. Also, don't be afraid to approach the staff at Cromwell's entrance, that's how I scored a spot for the PMQs.
  • Having done the tour twice I have to say it’s an impressive building. I love the architecture and the staff was nice but listening to the audio guide is nerve wrecking as it’s too long. One is not able to concentrate for that long. Especially if you aren’t really interested in politics in general
