Natural History Museum, London

4.5
Natural History Museum houses one of the world's largest collections of natural history specimens. Here you can see 70 million specimens in the fields of botany, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology, and zoology. The vast collection makes it impossible to view everything on one visit, so consider a few of the highlights. You can choose from dinosaur skeletons, fossils, taxidermied specimens of large mammals, and artwork featuring exotic animals, among many other displays. Whichever exhibits you put on your list, make sure to include Treasures. This exhibit features specimens that the museum selected from its exhaustive collection for their scientific, historical, aesthetic, and cultural importance. You can visit permanent exhibits for free, but temporary exhibits have an associated fee. • Wonder full display, some of the interactive bits are quite dated my OH said it was very 70's. The sperm whale is so amazing even though its a bit dusty. there is something for everyone here. the butt...  more »

  • This is a fantastic museum. My only gripe is that traffic is channelled around areas that are of less interest to younger visitors. Toilets were hard to locate and we had to ask where the dinosaur ske...  more »

  • Free entry, donations only on entry. Fantastic time spent here. Make sure to give yourself a good length of time because it is absolutely huge. Think I spent 3 hours there and I didn't get to see all of it. Favourite part was the section on human evolution
  • Excellent place to visit. Lots to see and do. Lovely grounds and great staff throughout the museum. Some exhibits look a little tried, but the earth and dinosaur sections were very good. A number of cafe areas but also a large hall on the lower level for picnics.
  • Absolutely incredible. The displays were stunning, well-laid out and pitched for various levels of audience without any level of exclusivity. Could easily spend multiple days here. The free entry (suggested donations are encouraged) makes this even better. Relatively minor queueing time were in evidence. Easily accessed from Underground.
  • We loved this museum. The dinosaur are was amazing. The T-Rex model was brilliant. The whole family enjoyed it. The planets area was also really good. Would recommend to any family.
  • Excellent place to visit in London. The museum is massive and yet, easy to visit its various sections. It certainly is one of the biggest attractions of London and it shouldn't be missed. There is no entrance fee, except for some exhibitions, which most of them are worth to be seen.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
